PARTNERS & FUNDRAISING

What is STAR adoption?

Adopting a pet may just be the most PAWsome thing you ever do! However, the decision to adopt, must not be undertaken lightly - it should be a decision involving HEAD as much as heart! Adopting requires a high level of commitment and responsibility towards that new family member both in good times and during challenging ones. Right from the very start, stellar decisions need to be made beginning with the moment you decide to adopt... MIS-matching a pet to your own family members, lifestyle and expectations often sets the adoptee up for failure before (s)he even arrives home.

The STAR Adoption programme endeavours to empower our CLAW adopters and arm them with the knowledge, resources, skills and supPAWt so that they become SOLUTION-FOCUSSED rather than problem-focussed. That “Happily ever-after” is not the absence of problems, it’s the ability to deal with them, if and when they arise! It is often those challenges that foster learning, growth, and also that strong loyal, trusting bond and mutual understanding and respect! So often the most challenging relationships are the ones that ultimately become the most joyful and rewarding! Obstacles are part of the agility course of life - they are not insurmountable, but rather these are the challenges which keep us learning, keep us growing and keep us flexible…

This programme will help CLAW get (and retain) SMART adopters and adoption advocates and help our CLAWbies (adoptees) to get adopted and stay adopted, and become stellar canine CLAWbie ambassadors!

The  CLAWbie who is a STAR  is :

SOCIABLE - gets along with other animals and humans and is confident in most situations.

TRAINED - behaves appropriately both at home and in public and enjoys learning and interacting with their owner.

ATTENTIVE: the CLAWbie is aware of his/her owner and adapts well to different environments

RELAXED: is calm, friendly and alert.

PAWleeze donate your secondhand goods or buy some PAWsome goodies making CLAW your beneficiary:

The STAR adopter is one who is:

SENSIBLE - the decision to adopt should be a well-considered rational one (not just an emotional "feel-good" one).

TEACHING - the adopter is a compassionate, calm and consistent mentor who embraces the ongoing (lifelong) learning and growth of the CLAWbie.

ACCEPTING: The adopter needs to be compassionate, patient, understanding and tolerant and recognise the CLAWbie needs a fair chance to adjust to his/her new home and family.

RESPONSIBLE: the adopter needs to take responsibility for the CLAWbie's care, safety and well-being (both physical and emotional).
